FPAC: Opening Reception & Artists Talk – Unexpected…

UNEXPECTED…

Out of the recesses of the mind, The Unexpected. Four artists work their magic in different media, inspirations and motivations.

Madeleine Lord scours metal scrapyards to find crumpled, rusting parts and pieces that when assembled are rebirthed as expressions of the human spirit.

Derrick Te Paske finds logs that might rot into the detritus of a life and carves them back to reveal vessels of extraordinary beauty. His bad boy humor is wonderfully engaging.

Michael Bourque, also the show’s curator, channels Major Depression into a lifelong quest to create beauty. His abstract paintings are lines and brushstrokes heavily laden with paint, creating beauty for beauty’s sake.

Nathan Bourque is a quadriplegic with only partial use of one hand. With this severe limitation, he reaches into the recesses of his mind for the subject matter of his paintings, bringing forth striking artistic expressions that transcend his disability.
