The Artist’s Voice: Virgil Abloh with Josh Johnson

In an exciting build up to Virgil Abloh’s “Figures of Speech,” debuting next month at the ICA, Boston Seaport by WS Development and the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) will partner to screen the world video premiere of The Artist’s Voice: Virgil Abloh with Josh Johnson.

This premiere is at the Public Green in Seaport (One Marina Park Drive, at Northern Avenue, Boston MA 02210)

Art and fashion fans are invited to an outdoor picnic and film screening in Seaport on the Public Green at 1 Marina Park Drive to celebrate the world-renowned multimedia artist’s forthcoming solo exhibition opening at the ICA.

The video premiere will kick off with Oliver Mak, co-founder of Bodega, providing reflections on the evolution and future of fashion in Boston.

Following Mak, the video will make its world debut in Seaport. Hear Virgil Abloh speak on his role as Men’s Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton and how he reconfigured the traditional runway show and showcased his fall/winter 2021 collection with a unique and powerful film — Peculiar Contrast, Perfect Light — created with artists from Moved by the Motion. Viewers of this new video will learn about the inspirations and processes for creating this groundbreaking film from Abloh and performance choreographer Josh Johnson, in conversation with Ruth Erickson, Mannion Family Curator at the ICA.

After the Artist’s Voice, there will be a livestreamed Q&A about the ICA’s “Figures of Speech” exhibition with Ruth Erickson and Michael Darling, former chief curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.

Plan your picnic – attendees of the event are encouraged to bring their own seating or blankets to picnic on the lawn during the film. DJ KNSZWRTH will provide music throughout the evening, Taiyaki NYC’s famous fish shaped ice cream cones will be given away, and attendees will have the chance to win items including the Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech catalogue and design items created by Virgil Abloh exclusively for the ICA.
