Parade by Tomislav Topic

The artwork PARADE by Tomislav Topic is a site-specific installation consisting of colored mesh fabric, which expands optical perception with its moiré effect created by the overlapping grid structures.

Digital rendering and analog reality seem to collide in this work, challenging its viewers to reflect on the construction of reality and the vision of creativity.

The installation’s form inversely picks up and accommodates the rise of the stairs and gallery steps inside of The Paseo. The individual fabric panels hang from the steel girder in the center of the room, framed by the walls, and become longer and deeper towards the back. The further the stairs climb up, the more the sculpture also comes down to meet them in the back, making the niche of The Paseo with its horseshoe-shaped seating area feel inviting, secured and cozy.

The variety of 120 colors and the inclusion of the entire spectrum illustrates in a direct way the diversity and colorful variety of cultures as well as the exchange of individual people. In a very compact space, the most diverse facets come to light here and act as a harmonious whole. The installation marks the special place of gathering, conversation and exchange. PARADE creates a unique atmosphere of inspiration and anchors art as an elemental experience in everyday events.

About Tomislav Topic
Tomislav Topic has created visual interventions in urban space since his beginnings as a graffiti artist. He later studied art & design in Menomonie (Wisconsin/USA) and at the HAWK in Hildesheim (Germany) and developed his very own style of painting.

Either on canvas or on huge walls, he creates a lively discourse of different color structures that ignite an intense mesmerizing dynamic.

His installations contrast the public space with aesthetic structures that unfold a suggestive density with their mostly parallel hanging, coarse-meshed color fabric. Depending on the viewer’s perspective and the weather, vivid color spaces emerge that elude clear categorizations.

Tomislav Topic lives and works in and near Berlin.
