The Current | Project Paulie

Project Paulie was founded on the belief of feeding each other. At the start of the pandemic, Nicky Bandera, the founder, and many of her friends were out of work. Nicky started to bake lasagna for the people in her circle that needed a little boost. Over time, that circle grew, and over 2000 lasagnas were sent to people in need. Nicky wanted to keep going, but realized that maybe baking thousands of lasagnas each morning was not sustainable. Tapping into her fashion design background, Nicky worked with local artists to create the Project Paulie Tomato, and featured it on a series of beanies. Today, Project Paulie works with 27 charitable organizations, the majority of which are based in Boston, and 20% of the proceeds of every colored hat or beanie sold is donated to an organization that betters the community.

The “Little Tomato” is a reminder of where Project Paulie started, symbolizing the tomato sauce Nicky made for all those lasagnas. When people ask “What’s the tomato all about?”, it’s an opportunity to talk about the organizations supported by the purchase of each hat. Discover their apparel at their pop up at The Current.
