The Passage by 1010

1010 (pronounced “ten-ten”) is a Hamburg-based contemporary artist known for his enigmatic, op-art murals. These street art illusions on walls around the world suggest portals into the dark abyss that inhabit our urban landscapes. Born in Poland in 1979, 1010 moved with his parents to Germany when he was eight years old and began painting graffiti in 1994. For more than a decade, the artist has been painting walls and making papercuts.

1010 works outwards from the dark center of his image, layer by later, to reach the lightest shades of color on the periphery of this piece. This creates breathtaking shapes that burrow their way into the sides of buildings. For the past few years, 1010 has been mostly focused on the abstract concept of making “holes on the walls”. The artworks invite the spectator to enter a curious world of graphic illusions and alluring colors.

Look up to discover ‘The Passage’ as you enter the Paseo on 111 Harbor Way, or before entering 55 Pier Four Boulevard and experience the striking murals in Seaport.
