Boston Children’s Museum: National Engineering Week

Engineers work with others to solve problems for people, communities, and animals. Bring your little ones to be an engineer as they try various activities and challenges throughout February vacation week that they can explore, create, test, and try again.

Monday, February 19
Build a Better Farm: Work on challenges to build a better farm, try one or more of the challenges to build a structure that will help three different farm animals.
E-Green LLC: Explore colored shadows as a result of the blending of colors within the shadowed areas of projected objects.
Stone Living Lab: Let your inner engineer shine and explore different ways to protect coastal communities from storm surge.

Tuesday, February 20
Build a Better Farm: Work on challenges to build a better farm, try one or more of the challenges to build a structure that will help three different farm animals.
LetGoYourMind: Make a LEGO vehicle to stay suspended above the track through magnetic levitation.
Arup: Exploring Urban Planning and the Built Environment, these two activities will encourage participants to explore their built environment, including the buildings around them and the layout of the city they live in.

Wednesday, February 21
Build a Better Farm: Work on challenges to build a better farm, try one or more of the challenges to build a structure that will help three different farm animals.
TranSystems Corporation: Kids will be challenged to build a bridge with a certain span and test its ability to withstand loads.
Boston Children’s Museum Collections: Celebrate Black Engineers through specific Collections artifacts for Black History Month and create a patent for your own invention.

Thursday, February 22
Grabber: Use an assortment of materials to build a tool that can lift a “space rock” from a crater and carry the rock to a laboratory.
MathTalk: MathTalk is prototyping some new MathTalk installations and activities. MathTalk employees will bring some prototypes and talk with kids about the engineering and design processes of idea creation, prototyping, and iterating.
Boston Children’s Museum Collections: Celebrate Black Engineers through specific Collections artifacts for Black History Month and create a patent for your own invention.

Friday, February 23
Grabber: Use an assortment of materials to build a tool that can lift a “space rock” from a crater and carry the rock to a laboratory.
Weston & Sampson: Use balloons and Lego to build air powered cars.
A.I. Storytelling: Artificial intelligence (A.I.) is a form of computer science that imitates human behavior – like speech and language or making decisions. Join us for an interactive workshop that blends the art of storytelling with A.I. See your wildest imaginations come to life onscreen and create a collaborative storyboard with other visitors.
